Echoing Through the Heart of Bali's Heritage
Our business history blossoms from a serendipitous encounter between two souls, both sharing a passion for guiding tourists through the enchanting realm of Bali.
In the late 1970s, amidst the vibrant rhythms of the Kecak dance, a man from Gianyar, Bali, escorted a curious German traveller while, nearby, a woman was captivating a group of Japanese visitors with tales of Bali's rich heritage in Tanjung Bungkak Denpasar.
1970
Beginnings
Within an era where Balinese women in guiding roles were scarce, her unwavering confidence was shining brightly. United by their love for sharing Balinese culture, they exchanged vows in 1980, embarking on an extraordinary journey together. For the next eight years, hand in hand, they painted vivid portraits of Bali's traditions and customs, weaving a tapestry of experiences that still resonate today.

Milestone
Milestone
In 1988, this belief came to fruition when our Batik Workshop, Phalam Batik, started operating in Tohpati – Denpasar. That year holds a special place in our hearts, marking the beginning of a dream fulfilled.
Like the slow growth of a tree before it bears fruit, our journey towards establishing a business was rooted in hard work and hope. After years of striving as a tourism worker, the belief in karma, as we call it in Bali, the results of our actions or hard work, was deeply ingrained in us.
The Story Began
1988
Phalam Batik & Souvenirs
Rooted in Balinese craftsmanship, Phalam Batik was born as a humble workshop in Tohpati, Denpasar. Showcasing traditional handmade batik and curated souvenirs, it marked the beginning of a family legacy inspired by culture, creativity, and karma.
2003
Sri Phala Resort & Villa
Sri Phala began as batik, not bricks, until the 2002 Bali bombing turned loss into quiet resistance. Our walls are lined with the resilience of a time remembered and many hands that helped us rise.
2011
Rama Phala Resort & Spa
From the strength of Sri Phala came another story, Rama Phala is a tribute to the strength of a woman transforming loss into hope. After losing the man who once walked the path beside her, she chose to keep guiding, even alone.
2016
Radha Phala Resort & Spa
When Rama Phala could no longer hold all who came, Radha Phala rose to carry the rest. It is the answer to a calling, where one story grew, another was born.
2019
Evening Massage Studio
As the streets of Monkey Forest filled with shops and sound, Evening Massage Studio was gently placed between it all. Born to meet the weary steps of Ubud’s wanderers, we come each evening offering a place to rest the body and return the mind to stillness.
2025
Tiny Pantry
Our Tiny Pantry is a home to the passion of our people who were once longed to create and share. It is coming to life as their answered medium, the cheer, and a quiet celebration from those who make everything else possible.
Rooted In Togetherness
Within the era where speed and progress seem paramount, our business might appear unprogressive, seemingly slow in its development. Yet, even within this seemingly long span of time between one venture and another, we have found profound joy in the journey. Working alongside a team that feels more like family, we've truly embraced each moment we’ve spent together where some of our staff have blissfully chosen to even dedicate the most of their lives as part of our family.
To those who have been with us throughout this journey, we extend our deepest gratitude for making our journey not just about business, but about the richness of human connection and dedication
It’s the People:
The Philosophy
Within the evolution of business, conventional patterns of management inevitably require adaptation. We feel that an entity is needed as a guardian of values, on the other hand maintaining standards and quality. Thus, The Phala entity was formed in 2015. "It's the People" became our guiding principle, stemming from a deep-rooted belief that we, and Bali as a whole, are esteemed not for tangible possessions, but for the intangible, yet more profound, emotions they evoke. Within this concept, it’s “the people” involved that play the pivotal roles. And this ethos differentiates us.
Drawing inspiration from industry leaders like the Aman Group, we strive to imbue our brand with distinctiveness. As well as from the respected Tandjung Sari Sanur, we learn the value of consistency and process in achieving enduring success. While we acknowledge the vast gap between us and these luminaries, their example serves as a guiding light, illuminating our path towards greatness. The Phala is a family business, both natural and formed over time and has now reached the second generation, but we believe that a sincere sense of work and service is naturally in our blood. We don't need to look for these characters everywhere; we just need to remain ourselves.
